Doubling Down on the Nines

Happy New Year!  Now that the holidays have wound down and I know what day of the week is, it's time to show off a new quilt pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop.

From their Classic and Vintage series, I present the Double Nine Patch quilt block!

This is a quick and easy block to make.  I love nine patches and red and white quilts, so this project speaks to my soul on so many levels.  I used a mix of red and white fabrics from Bonnie and Camille's The Good Life.  Because I was in the middle of marching band season with my daughter and time was sparse, I chose not to make the quilt, but I didn't want to just make a block.  So I got to thinking, why not get a jump on the next major holiday?

Wow!  I planned ahead and actually got a holiday project ready in time for the intended holiday.  How very adult of me. LOL

So now, I have a very snazzy, new throw pillow to celebrate Valentine's Day with in my decorating arsenal.

Of course, this maybe the only decorating I do for Valentine's Day....

Thank you so much Fat Quarter Shop for letting me play with another great pattern again!  I just may have to get that awesome kit you are offering in your shop so that I can finally make a full-sized Red and White quilt that is on my "Quilty Bucket List."

Mel

Jazz Hands? No, Jolly Bar Jazz!

I am thrilled to present my contribution to the Fat Quarter Shop's latest Shortcut quilt, the Jolly Bar Jazz pattern.  This is the first time I have been asked to make a sample for a business.  I couldn't have wished for a better inaugural pattern.

Like all of the Shortcut Quilt patterns, this one went together fast.  I had all of the pieces cut out and sewn together in a matter of 2 days!

What I also love about this quilt: it's big enough to fit a twin-sized bed.  I think it's going to be a fight between my daughter and my youngest son who gets to use it on their bed first.

I used Kona White as the background for this quilt with American Jane's Bread N' Butter line.  I think this quilt would also have looked even cuter if I could have used my Moda light blue Chambray fabric, but I didn't have quite enough yardage.  Oh well, next time, because I can definitely see myself making this again. :)

Thanks Fat Quarter Shop for the opportunity to present this great quilt to the world.  I look forward to the chance to do it again!

Keep on crafting,

Mel

Is This Thing On?

Welcome, to my blog!

The last time I blogged was 11 years ago, and it was about knitting.  I still knit.  But...I also quilt now.  And, I still crochet...and cross stitch...and do needlepoint...and weave...and have been known to dabble in macrame, string art and the occasional sewing of a costume or two.

Hmm.

I suppose some would say I suffer from Craft ADD.  I like to say that I am well-rounded and experienced in all that the "fiber-y" lives have to offer.

Okay, I paint, color, draw and write too.

I may have a problem.

But, until they develop a 12 step program for my kind of "addiction" or I get roped into being on an episode of Hoarders because the craft supplies have over run the house, I will continue on.

And now, blog about it.

My name is Mel, which is short for Melissa.  I am a wife of 27 years and a mom of 3 boys and 1 girl.  I live a creative life.
